The Empress dates to 1900 when it housed commercial operations on the first floor, and miner's lodgings upstairs. The commercial operations over the years consisted of one of the first telephone exchanges in Bisbee, early appliance store, market and grocery. In recent years, there has been a restaurant and a pottery store in the building. In the early years, the upstairs housed 10 (5 on each side of a center hall) miner's lodging rooms.
