Rich with History, the Town of Crewe is often referred to as the "Town that Norfolk & Western Built." Prior to the Construction of the Norfolk & Western (N&W) shops, the Area was comprised of Large Farms with One Rail Stop known as "Robertson's Siding" or "Robertson's Switch." In 1881, N&W Purchased the Southside Railroad located halfway between Norfolk and Roanoke; "Robertson's Siding" was decided to be the site of the New Division Headquarters for their Locomotive Repair Shops, Rail yard, Roundhouse, Shops, Power Plant, and Offices. They named the New Headquarters "Crewe" after a Famous Rail Center in England. At the same time, Railroad Engineers and Developers laid out the Entire Town of Crewe. Most of the Land for the New Rail Yard, 137 Acres, was Purchased from the Robertson Family, Namesakes of the Existing Rail Stop. Plats show the Robertsons owning Land in the Area since at least the Mid-Eighteenth Century. The N&W merged with Southern Railroad in the Early 1980's to become the successful Norfolk-Southern Railroad of Today. This Homeplace is a Must-See and is Move-In Ready!!!
